It has striking white, papery bark that peels off in layers and aromatic, needle-like leaves. The tree produces white or cream bottlebrush-like flowers in summer and fall, attracting bees and butterflies. It is often used for erosion control and as an ornamental tree in landscaping due to its attractive bark and flowers. The essential oil extracted from its leaves is used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. It is also known for its ability to absorb excess water and its resistance to fire.
