Surinam Cherry

Eugenia uniflora is a large shrub native to South America, growing slowly to 27 ft. When cut, its leaves and branches have a spicy fragrance, which can cause respiratory discomfort to some individuals. Its fruit is the surinam cherry or pitanga, with a taste from sweet to sour, depending on its ripeness, and it is high in vitamins C and A.
