Mountain Almendro

This evergreen tree is native from Nicaragua to Colombia and can reach up to 140 ft in height in its natural habitat. Mountain almendros display beautiful pink and purple flowers from March to July, which attract bees, butterflies and birds. It's wood can be used for marine construction, bridges and railroads but Costa Rica took a stance in 2018 to forbid its exploitation as it is now considered a greatly endangered species.
