Fishtail Palm

Caryota urens is a species of flowering plant in the palm family, native to Sri Lanka and the Indo-Malaysian region, that can reach up to 49 ft in height. Urens is Latin for "stinging" alluding to the oxalic acid in the fruit, and this palm's leaves can be used as fishing rods. They grow interesting inflorescences from top to bottom. We do not plan on having elephants at Siva Ashram but, if we did, they'd love to eat the leaves and pulp!
