Theobroma cacao is known as the cacao tree. It is a small evergreen tree that can grow up to 26 ft, native to the deep tropical regions of Mesoamerica. Cacao beans constituted both a ritual beverage and a major currency system in pre-Columbian Mesoamerican civilizations.
